In late September 2021, the Hamburg team presented the ARCH project to the public and launched an online survey at the Green World Tour, a sustainability fair taking place within the framework of Hamburg’s yearly Climate Week. At least 3000 visitors attended the two-day event, which took place outdoors on Dar-Es-Salaam square, just a few steps away from the UNESCO World Heritage Site Speicherstadt and Kontorhausviertel with Chilehaus that are the focus areas of ARCH in the city of Hamburg.
At the event, the Hamburg team did not only present the work being done in the project but also introduced a survey, asking locals and visitors: How can the historic area Speicherstadt and Kontorhausviertel with Chilehaus be better prepared for the challenges of the future? In the survey, problems can be named, potential measures are identified and priorities can be shared. The Hamburg ARCH team is looking for ideas for the short- and long-term development of the World Heritage site, and is using the guidance of six themes: protection and preservation, urban environment and safety, research and knowledge, culture, transport and infrastructure, and visitor and tourism management.
Participation in the online survey is still possible until Sunday, November 21st, 2021.
An evaluation of the survey is expected to be published on the websites of the ARCH project and Hamburg World Heritage from January 2022. The results of the survey as a whole will form the basis for a revision of the UNESCO Management Plan, which is also planned for 2022.
